First off, huge shout out to the ladies at the Chiang Mai ladyboy cabaret! You all are fantastic and we enjoyed our evening with you!
For everyone else, a ladyboy cabaret is just what it sounds like. These are gorgeous men dressed as women who look a million times better than me on my best day! They do routines and lip sync to songs and generally just have a great night with the crowd and the crowd goes wild!!!
Ladyboy is not a slur here, it’s a term for the culture and they are not looked down upon at all. They are artists, dancers, performers, and just generally nice human beings! We got the idea to go here from watching Anthony Bourdain in No Reservations- he goes to this same cabaret and has such a wonderful evening that it’s hard not to want to capture that experience yourself!
We met up with some girls who we had made friends with the other day at the Elephant Tour and since Matt was thinking ahead to get us reservations, we had a table almost in the front row! Beers, shots, buckets ensued… large baht exchanged for 20s and we are ready to see some dancing!
All the ladies love Matt btw, his charismatic smile and acceptance brings them all by our table and we are all laughing and having a great time! And then they ask for volunteers from the audience…. All 3 of us girls point to Matt and they pull him on stage…
I won’t go into what actually happened on stage unless Matt would like those secrets divulged… they may have put him in a pink dress and wig and he went by the name Matilda… but you didn’t hear it from me 😉 as gorgeous as Matt is, he does not make a good looking woman! 😂
And yes, these girls are gorgeous and can they ever dance!!! The one to the right of Matt looked like a dead ringer for Rhianna!
