First Trip to Costa Rica

Hi Friends and Family! Restarting our travel blog to keep you all up to date with the adventures we are having in Costa Rica. I will start this journey at the beginning which involves finding a flight deal for round trip tickets from GRR to LIB for $250 per person! We saw that come across almost 6 months ago and figured we would jump at the chance for adventure before we even had a plan. The rest of the plan has slowly formulated by watching an abundance of YouTube videos, following a million bloggers, and trying to pick others brains of who has gone before. I would say that watching the Youtube videos is probably going to be your best way to plan a route in a country you have never been to before. These inteprepid travelers gave us insight to the things you should try when going to Costa Rica- jungles, cloud forests, volcanoes, and the ocean… from there it was just figuring out how far we wanted to drive and how long we wanted to stay in each location.

That leads us to the current plan: 2 days in the cloud forest of Monteverde; 2 days next to the Arenal volcano, and finishing the trip with time spent on the beach in Tamarindo. We started the last trip to Thailand with Beach first and felt that it would have been better to wrap things up that way, so we will see how it pans out.

Fully loaded suitcases and tons of research – check! 4 AM wake up call for our 6:30 flight to Atlanta this morning- check! Now we are flying somewhere over Mexico on our way to Liberia airport.. and well, now you know the plan and are all caught up 🙂

Things that we are excited about, besides going to a country and continent we really have never been to before… new animals! I can’t wait to see all the animals that you dont find in NA and see in Zoos.. including those cute little Coatis and the things that look like guinea pigs with long legs (will find the name of that later). Being in a cloud forest and volcanic area should be outside our normal as well and truthfully, I am looking forward to the trees ( I know, shocker right?) 😀

I have to admit I have been a bit nervous on planning this trip, only because we are going to be driving in a foreign country that is known for its terrible roads. I mean we drove in Ireland on the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the road, and then took our lives into our hands by driving scooters all over Thailand.. so how hard can this be?

Everyone has told us that Costa Ricans (or Ticos as they call themselves) are the friendly people in the world- however, we heard that about Ireland and Thailand too and it was just as true there.. how friendly can people get?? We are about to find out!

We look forward to posting fun pictures and updates along the way but for now, kick back and enjoy the 4 hour flight (not 14 hours like Thailand) to Liberia, Costa Rica. Pura Vida Mae!
