Tamarindo is EXPENSIVE

Folks, this place is not for the light of wallet to be sure! Today we thought we would do a chill day just to recoup some finances because Costa Rica is EXPENSIVE.

Started off our morning with power bowls at Costa Juice. Great way to start off a hot day although really we started off with a swim and a fight with the grackle who lives there and thinks the pool is his… LOL! Yes trading words/squawks with a bird is something we do. After our delectable cold breakfast with tropical fruits and smoothies, we went over to the Saturday Tamarindo Farmers Market. This really reminded us of Thailand (although unlike Thais, Ticos don’t like to haggle) with lots of stalls and neat trinkets. Prices were insane high! I think beaded bracelets were going for $15 each for these tiny little stretchy bracelets with beads. We did end up getthing this incredible artwork that was made by an artist who burns wood with electricity. (see pictures attached) There were stands that sold crystals, jewelry, art, pipes, foods, fruits, etc. There were some guys who made this fish dip which Matt said was amazing and wanted to get but there was NO way that was getting back through customs.

There was a shelter adopting out dogs, which I would have gladly taken the little wire haired one but no more pooches for us. Salem just wouldn’t allow it 😉 It was super hot today and it felt like baking in the sunshine as we walked around the shaded market, thus we headed back to the bnb and promptly enjoyed some pool time and further nonsense conversation with our Grackle cohort…. who brought his big brother “El Jefe” to join in the fight. As we spent all day in the pool, I think its fair to say we won 🙂

Lunch was at Green Papaya Taco bar which we almost didn’t stay because they were cash only but I am SO glad we did and Matt will make fun of me again for saying this but that was literally the best Shrimp burrito I have ever had! They have a chili sauce that is to die for and we bought a bottle to take home (is bribing the customs agent to look the other way allowed:???) They had outdoor seating and swings at their tables! I say nothing like a great meal on a swing right?

From there we were deciding how to spend the rest of our day (preferably away from Tamarindo) and thought we would go 2 miles up the road to Playa Grande… 2 miles is a 45 minute drive here! there are no direct routes at all so we skipped it and watched the monkeys climb wires on our way back to the pool.

Stopped briefly at the supermarket to pick up some coffee and Costa Rican goodies to bring home but then pooled it up for the next few hours again before dinner. Dinner was at Wild Panda where the motto on the sign says “Suck my Cocktails” (think Alisha would like that one.. LOL!) but it was the last meal out today and the cheapest one. We had reservations for a beach club but feeling like we might need to take out a second mortgage when we get home, we skipped that too. Wild Panda had a 2 for one frozen mojito special so win win 🙂

The rest of the night was spent in the pool drinking beers and throwing the flowers that were floating against the wall in an attempt to make art… let us know what you think after you see the picture, can we make a living? LOL!

Heading to the airport around 10:30 in the morning so my last wrap up post will most likely be from our layover in Atlanta airport tomorrow since its a couple of hours and we don’t make it back to. GR until midnight.

Its been a surreal and weird vacation to be sure. We both agree this is the first time we are ok with going home even though we don’t want to leave the nice weather, this place is just too expensive and touristy to enjoy. Until then, I wish everyone a pleasant evening 🙂 Pura Vida.
